Don’t Judge a Book by it’s Cover

So that’s what I taught my kids about tonight.  I love love LOVE teaching the age kids I have at church.  Sometimes though they get easily distracted so I try and make it as fun and creative as possible.

Tonight we learned about judging others.  I sent the kids off to class with an empty sheet of paper.  I asked them to write on it things they’ve thought or said that was in some way judging others.  While they were in the classroom I underwent a transformation.  I went in dressed prim and proper and even had my hair in a bun.  I came out looking like this:

Yes I’m wearing a smile because this was after the lesson.  But when I walked in the kids reactions were of shock and fear.  The immediately cast judgement on what they saw on the outside.  Ha!!  I even kind of scared myself.  But that was the point of tonight.  How often do we take what we see externally and base opinions off of that??  If we thought about it, we’d realize it would be quite often unfortunately.  We talked about how we judged people based on whether they were rich or poor, whether they wore name brand clothes, whether they were popular… We recognized these things and acknowledged how they’re wrong.  We then talked about how people have judged us… how it felt and what it was like to have the roles reversed.  It really got my group thinking.  Lastly we discussed how judgement is reserved for God and how we can work to try and see what’s on the inside and not on the outside.  I think they learned a lot tonight!!!

Here are the rest of the headshots Mel took for me a few weeks ago.  Thanks a zillion pal!!!  Now if I could just figure out how to update my blog!!!
