I arrived to a photoshoot about a week ago a few minutes early. I took the opportunity to walk around outside instead of waiting in my car. It was a BEAUTIFUL afternoon, the sun shining bright, the wind blowing just perfectly and the sound of……well nothing. I love how God makes nature so quiet and serene. A place of escape almost. It’s ours and it’s free and if you haven’t noticed it’s GORGEOUS!! I walked until I came upon a bush that had an array of flowers. Some were fully blossomed and some were mere babies, just waiting for their chance to bloom. I stood there and studied something as simple as a flower. I thought about the different seasons and how everything has to be just right just so that bush can produce a flower. It has to get the right amount of water, sunshine and be a perfect temperature to obtain and MAINTAIN life.
This flower waiting to blossom is like so many of us today. We’ve all been planted. Some of us have been watered, some of us have seen the sun. Two very important things in our walk with Christ. Are you allowing yourself the proper nutrition to make sure you blossom?
Recently I started teaching at our church. It was something I felt led and very excited to do. The first two weeks with my kids were amazing. Then last night I left feeling so discouraged. I felt like who am I to think that I can teach these kids anything. My class size had doubled and I felt so inadequate. I came home and entertained all the ideas of my not being good enough to do what TRULY I feel the Lord wants me to. Then the Holy Spirit spoke to me just as clear as you and I would holding a conversation. He said: Now, will you let me teach THROUGH you? Two feelings immediately flooded me: Relief and HUMILITY. You see, I’m close enough to the Lord in my walk to know in an instant when something’s not right in my spirit and thank God for the Holy Spirit because last night he checked me. He was right. Who AM I to think I can teach these kids? I’m merely someone God called. HE is the one who qualifies those called! So as I embark on this new journey of teaching I’m stepping out into the light, receiving the SON and being faithful to church so I stay watered. The Lord wants us to all be beautiful things in HIM. And in order to do that we have to submit to a certain element of risk. We have to step out of our comfort zones in complete submission to the Lord and trust that his plan for us is to become this:
“…And what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8
